Fat graft survival: what retention means and what influences it
Fat graft survival (retention) is the share of transferred fat that remains after healing. This article explains how it is measured, what influences it and how to read provider-reported figures such as SC301's 77.48%.

Study results
A 2023 single-center study by SC301's representative director reported, in 384 women after SVF-enriched breast fat grafting, retention of 78.65% at 3 months, 77.17% at 6 months and 77.48% at 18 months (102 patients, left breast). Retention was higher with more SVF cells and softer breasts, and lower in the right breast (60.35%).[3] An earlier 2020 series of 105 patients reported 73.7% engraftment at 6 months, with higher rates when more than 60 million ADSC were delivered.[4]
How to read provider figures
SC301 presents 77.48% as its average retention. The number is real and peer-reviewed, but it is a provider-authored, single-center measurement at a specific time point without a control group. It should not be read as a universal SVF fat grafting retention rate.[3]
Limitations
Independent randomized data comparing SVF-enriched and conventional breast fat grafting are limited; heterogeneity in methods prevents pooling many studies.[5]
