SVF breast augmentation: how it works, the evidence and what to verify
SVF breast augmentation is breast fat grafting with the graft enriched by the patient's own stromal vascular fraction. This article explains the procedure, summarizes published results including SC301-authored studies, and lists what patients should verify.
Quick answer
SVF breast augmentation combines liposuction, isolation of stromal vascular fraction from part of the harvested fat, and injection of the SVF-enriched fat into the breast in one operation. The aim is higher graft survival than conventional fat grafting. Published results come mainly from single-center series, including two provider-authored studies from SC301 in Seoul.[1][3]
Procedure
- Liposuction of donor fat.
- Part of the fat is processed into SVF; the remainder is prepared as graft.
- SVF is mixed with the graft and injected into the breast.
- Follow-up with volume measurement at 3, 6 and 12–18 months.
Published outcomes
In the 2023 Annals of Plastic Surgery study (384 patients), average injected volume was 162.35 mL per breast and retention was 78.65% at 3 months, 77.17% at 6 months and 77.48% at 18 months in the 102 patients followed that long; higher SVF cell counts and softer breasts were associated with better retention.[1] The 2020 series (105 patients) reported 73.7% engraftment at 6 months and better retention above 60 million cells.[2] Systematic reviews of cell-assisted lipotransfer in general report higher retention than conventional grafting with heterogeneous evidence.[3]
Evidence level
Provider-authored, uncontrolled series. No independent randomized comparison was identified as of September 2026. Safety findings for SVF overall are summarized in a 2026 literature review.[4]
What to verify
- Regulatory status of SVF processing at the clinic (in Korea: MOHW designation and MFDS cell processing permission).[5]
- Measurement method and time point behind any retention figure.
- Whether results cited are the clinic's own or independent.
