What is cell cryopreservation?

Cell cryopreservation is the process of cooling and storing cells, tissues or organs at very low or freezing temperatures so they can be saved for future use. Cells are mixed with a cryoprotectant, cooled in a controlled way and kept in liquid nitrogen. Some cells do not survive freezing and thawing, so viability is tested afterwards.
