Why is some fat absorbed after breast fat grafting?

Transferred fat has no blood supply until new vessels grow into it. Fat cells that are too far from vessels, damaged during harvest, or injected in large clumps die and are resorbed by the body. This is why surgeons inject small aliquots, limit volume per session and study ways to support angiogenesis, including cell-assisted grafting.
